The Reenactors of the American Civil War (RACW) is a non-profit, living history organization based in Northern California. Our goal is to perpetuate public awareness of, and stimulate interest in, the historical significance of the period in United States history termed "the War between the States" and commonly called the American Civil War.
Organized in 1991, our membership continues to grow. We strive to recreate the drama, mannerisms and realities of life during that pivotal time in history. The RACW is composed of Confederate, Union and Civilian representatives. We portray life as it was for members of both armies at the camps, on campaign and in battle, in addition to the impact this conflict had on civilians. Our members are dedicated to presenting the visiting public with the most authentic presentation of the Civil War era possible. Extensive study and a great deal of effort is involved in gathering and recreating the uniforms, clothing and artifacts of the times.
The RACW sponsors events in the Northern California area on a monthly basis during the Spring & Summer. Our events are co-sponsored by organizations who desire to bring an educational and entertaining event to their communities.
Individual members are also available for presentations to schools and community organizations. Bring history alive in the classroom with costumed reenactors portraying the speech, music and mannerisms of the times. Hear their personal stories, taste their foods, try a few period crafts and enjoy a unique perspective into the past.
