The RACW prides itself on our involvement in enhancing student education with meaningful programs that compliment California curriculum. More than just dates and data of battles and generals, reenactors can demonstrate how the war impacted those who participated.

Individual members of our organization volunteer their time and talents to provide a unique, time-travel experience for students of all ages. Costumed reenactors will come to your school and perform memorable presentations on a variety of period topics--let us know what area of study your class is most interested in.

Most presentations focus on how the war effected common people, and how ordinary citizens accomplished extraordinary feats and changed the world they lived in. These presentations will challenge and inspire your class.

Presenters can adapt their programs to a wide range of age groups and grade levels. Eight and Fifth grades particularly request presentations as part of their American History studies. Presentations can be tailored for a single class or an entire school body and be as short as an hour or involve several presenters for an all day event.

Some community reenactment events include a school day. On the Friday before the event, RACW members give of their time to conduct students on a tour of the camps and present a look at life in 1863. Classes rotate though presentation stations in the Union, Confederate and Civilian encampments. Up to 500 students per day have attended these events in Humboldt and Shasta counties! Feedback from students and teachers are consistently positive. If your community is hosting an RACW event, contact the Education Coordinator to find out if a school day can be scheduled for your students.
